An Israeli prisoner died in his Rimonim Prison cell in Even Yehuda on Sunday, Israel Prison Service (IPS) announced.
The 25-year-old prisoner had been in jail since 2019 on suspicion of rape and committing sexual offenses against three women.
He was a former IDF soldier in the Paratroopers Brigade and once received a presidential award for his service from former president Reuven Rivlin.
Last week, the prisoner agreed to a plea bargain which would have seen him admit to rape and sexual assault of two women, according to KAN news.
Emergency services attempted to save the man’s life after prison guards found him unconscious in his cell but were forced to determine his death at the scene. IPS stated that an investigation has begun into the circumstances of his death.

Earlier in October, another prisoner mysteriously died in his cell at Nitzan Prison in Ramle.
